Forage & Feast Campout with Chef Erik Williams The Land of Odd, Beaverville IL

Forage & Feast Spring Camping Feast survival camp at The Land of Odd in Iroquois County IL. As seen on The Discovery Channel. With Chef Erik Williams.

An out of the frying pan and into the fire experience. Everything we eat for the entire weekend will have either been foraged, grown, hunted, or caught in the local area. We will work together as a team to harvest, prepare, and cook a meal made of plants and mushrooms we foraged paired with locally sourced proteins from farmers and hunters. We may make a trip to a nearby private woodland to harvest ramps and other goodies. Morels and wild asparagus will be in season!

In addition to foraging and campfire camaraderie other activities may include fishing, nighttime headlamp frog walk, haunted site exploration, a bonfire, finding and identifying local fauna (reptiles, insects, and more), viewing the local bison herd, exploring ruins, maybe a trip to a nearby waterfall, and more. A weekend of experiences to last a lifetime.

Pick your own campsite, full bathrooms and showers on site. Come down for the entire weekend or just for a day. Tents and air mattresses available if you don't have your own. Arrive Friday night or Saturday morning, you can leave whenever you'd like and even stay through Monday morning. A photographer will be on site to capture the memories and chef Erik Williams will be preparing all meals. Camping gear is available to borrow if you don't have your own.

Ecology for Foragers Camp in Tipton MI

Join Dave Odd of Eat the Neighborhood and Rachel Osborn Mifsud of Will Forage for Food for Ecology for Foragers.

Ecology for Foragers will teach you to read the landscape around you. You’ll learn how soil, sunlight, moisture, trees, seasonal cycles, and successional cycles work together to reveal where edible plants and mushrooms thrive. We will spend time in a variety of different habitats learning to interpret the envitonment. And along the way we will discuss several important foraging topics, including plant and mushroom identification, safety, ethical harvesting, and sustainable foraging techniques.

This course is ideal for both beginners and experienced foragers who want to practice and sharpen their skills. While you are here, you will get the chance to taste several different wild foods in our meals. You will even harvest some of the ingredients yourself. (And if we are lucky we may even find a few morels!)

We will meet on Friday evening (6-9pm), all day Saturday (9am-9pm), and Sunday morning (9am-noon).

Cost: $250 per person. Price includes classes all 3 days, all materials, 5 gourmet quality meals (friday dinner, 3 meals saturday, and sunday breakfast), camping location (BYO tent/hammock/camper), and access to the lake (including kayaks and fishing poles) for the weekend.

Get away from the hustle and bustle of the sticky crowded city and enjoy the fresh country air, wide open spaces, and actually see the stars at night! Fall mushrooms should still be abundant. We will also explore some haunted locations, hear about the local lore and history, and tell campfire ghost stories.

Labor Day Forage and Feast at The Land of Odd in Iroquois County IL

Labor Day survival camp at The Land of Odd in Iroquois County IL. As seen on The Discovery Channel. Summer mushrooms should be popping!

An out of the frying pan and into the fire experience. Everything we eat for the entire weekend will have either been foraged, grown, hunted, or caught in the local area. We will prepare all mealson site and Dave Odd will give insight and advice on preparing and preserving foraged ingredients as well as cooking demos.

In addition to foraging and campfire camaraderie other activities will include fishing, nighttime headlamp frog walk, haunted site exploration, a bonfire, finding and identifying local fauna (reptiles, insects, and more), viewing the local bison herd, exploring ruins, maybe a trip to a nearby waterfall, and more. A weekend of experiences to last a lifetime.

Pick your own campsite, full bathrooms and showers on site. Come down for the entire weekend or just for a day. Tents and air mattresses available if you don't have your own. Arrive Friday night or Saturday morning, you can leave whenever you'd like and even stay through the entire day Monday.

We will work together as a team to harvest, prepare, and cook a meal made of plants and mushrooms we foraged paired with locally sourced proteins from farmers and hunters. We will likely make a trip to a nearby private woodland to harvest ramps and other goodies.

In addition to foraging and campfire camaraderie other activities may include fishing, nighttime headlamp frog walk, haunted site exploration, a bonfire, finding and identifying local fauna (reptiles, insects, and more), viewing the local bison herd, exploring ruins, maybe a trip to a nearby waterfall, and more. CANCELLED due to the fact I'll be in the hospital recovering from surgery to remove a cancerous mass from my colon! Don't worry, prognosis is good and I should be back on my feet within a couple weeks for events at the end of the month!
